Amanda Brugel was born in Quebec to a white mother and Asian father. As a kid, she loved dancing and took classes, but found she was taller than her male partners which made things awkward, so she left the dance class and joined an acting class. That change, it turns out, was the right move. She quickly entered the prestigious Theatre Program at York University on a scholarship and ended up graduating from York with a degree in Fine Arts. It wasn’t long after graduation that she landed a small part in the movie Vendetta (1999) and followed it up with A Diva’s Christmas Carol (2000). While it may have been kind of strange, Amanda’s role in the horror movie Jason X (2001) with its big marketing budget helped her get her name out there and soon she was working regularly in movies and TV including the big hit TV show The Handmaiden’s Tale. In her off time, Amanda runs a non-profit organization that focuses on helping women and children in need.
